We are pleased to report that 89 boxes containing text books, and 11 containers holding clothes and assorted items have begun their journey to Ghana this week, where they will be distributed amongst a number of schools.

The task was no small feat, and was accomplished with the hard work of Nitharshan Srikanthapalan, Faye Daniels, Cyril Okpuno and Martin Burder who spent the best part of the bank holiday packing boxes and loading them onto a lorry! Thank you all so much for your help.

The books were, in the main, donated by Caludon Castle School (Coventry) and Nicholas Chaimberlaine School (Bedworth), and we extend our warmest thanks to them. In particular, Victoria McManus, Noel Devine and Tim James were instrumental in securing the donations and helping to pack, load and carry the books.

The shipment is due to arrive in Ghana on the 28th January, and we will update on our progress very soon.

Today, trustees Roscoe and Narsh left on an epic bike ride!

They will cycle from Land’s End to John o’Groats – a distance of approximately 1000 miles and they will do this without a support vehicle (i.e. they will carry their own equipment, clothes etc while cycling).

You can follow their progress on their blog here.

Ghanaian school

Earlier this year, The Teach Ghana Trust Chair (Narsh) visited a number of schools in Ghana and invited them to make applications for capitial grants from us. Two schools' applications have been approved by the trustees and a third is currently under review.

Procedures are currently being placed so that we can ensure that the grants are used appropriately and, once in place, the grants will be issued.

We feel the work of the Trust is now coming to fruition and that once the first grants are made, we will be in a better position to make a significant impact on schools in Ghana.

If you'd like to know more about the approved grants please feel free to contact us at info@teachghanatrust.org.uk or if you'd like to get more involved you may wish to visit our membership page.

Over the past 4 months Baz Berry (with help from regulars at the Star in Haywards Heath and the assistant manager there, Claire McCord) has successfully raised over £1200 which was raised through a variety of means (from a pub quiz to birthday donations for Baz’s 70th birthday). The donations were presented to members of the Teach Ghana Trust at Baz’s birthday dinner on 3rd January and they have suggested that more may be on the way!

The Teach Ghana Trust is grateful to all the work put in by Baz, Claire and any others who helped to make their fundraising attempts so successful.
